Sciatic Pain is commonly experienced as a sharp electrical pain down the back of the leg, that can radiate from the buttock to the feet. Sacral illiac pain is able to refer pain down to the knee and is often confused with true sciatica. Sciatic pain can have several origins starting with irritation at the disc level, muscle contraction or spasm into the pelvis that presses on the sciatic nerve, irritating it and sending pain down the nerve. The Sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, composed from every lumbar spine level. This nerve innervates most of the muscle and sensory aspect of the leg.
